The beauty of nature and wildlife has always been a major influence in Sally’s life. She grew up in the South Carolina low country; where fishing, hunting, and walks in the wild were almost daily activities. Living just minutes from Charleston, she was a frequent visitor to the city, which gave her a love of history, antiquities, and architecture as well.

Sally has painted throughout her life but decided to seriously pursue her creative talents when she and her husband, Frank, moved to the beautiful North Carolina mountains in 1987. She began placing more emphasis on her fine art paintings in 1996, opening her own gallery and school in 2001.  Her attraction to the beauty and form of glass led her to take a class in kiln formed, fused glass, and by 2012 she had happily added the medium to her creative talents.

Although Sally's paintings are based on the sound practices of the old Masters, sprinkled with the experimental faux finishes derived from her work as a decorative artist, her work in both painting and glass tends to be loose, free, and flowing.

She believes a work of art should be like a good friend; giving pleasure, comfort, and inspiration.   "When I create, I relax,

smile, dream, become inspired....My hope is to convey these things to the viewer.

Sally's paintings have graced the covers of All About Women, High Country Living, and Carolina Mountain Life.

Her work is enjoyed by both private and corporate clients for her fine art as well as her decorative art. She has created numerous custom works on furniture, floor cloths, murals, canvas, paper, and glass, with some works specifically designed for corporate tee shirts and logo's.

Sally is the owner of Sally Nooney Gallery in Matney, just outside of Banner Elk, NC; where she exhibits her work and creates daily.
